Teddy Bear Hospital

Teddy Bear Hospital (TBH) aims at helping young children between ages of 3-6 to lose their fears towards doctors and hospital environments in a friendly and playful way. We achieve this by setting up a hospital for teddy bears with a waiting room, doctor’s office, operation room, x-ray machine and pharmacy. Children are invited to attend our hospital with their teddy bear and together with a teddy doctor (medical student) they try to heal their ill friend. At the same time the project provides an opportunity for medical students to learn more about pediatrics and gives them a chance to work with children.

HmC is a project for young people. It was created for primary and high school students by medical students, who lead the workshops, develop the program and coordinate the project. We want to encourage young people to accept healthy life style early in life with peer to peer education. This way we are adding our part to national care for lowering incidence of cardiovascular diseases in Slovenia. We take care of workshop quality by yearly education of medical students with lectures and motivation-weekend, where they gain extra knowledge, get to know their coworkers and face new challenges.

What are the reasons for entering the world of drugs? Is every drug user necessarily an addict? Is he or she aware of the risks involved in taking drugs? And how to react in case of an overdose?
That's why we're here! Our goal is to open a public debate on the subject of drug abuse and addiction and consequently contribute to lowering the stigmatization of drug users and make it less of a taboo topic.
Thus, we offer objective and scientifically proven facts about psychoactive substances to Slovenian public and try to raise awareness about their effects. We also point out the long-term consequences of drug abuse.
Be aware! It could happen to anyone...

Yearbook

In charge of project: Karmen Marinšek
Contact: zbornik(at)dsms.net

Students’ yearbook is the most read book in all of medicine. It's something that brings us together and makes us a team of future doctors. It is published yearly and includes ours professors, all about extracurricular activities and of course our students with their contacts. It is very useful to find somebody to study with, to make a seminar or to go for a beer after the exam and is a very beautiful memory for many years.

Course of Slovene sign language

In charge of project: Katja Prunk
Contact: katjap(at)dsms.net

Do you want to know, how deaf people communicate with each other? How they explain to the doctor, what is wrong with them? What kind of troubles do they have in the bank, in the court or even in a store? What is the meaning of the signs that deaf people use instead of sounds?
You will find out answers to this questions and even more information about the life of deaf people at the course of sign language. Our teachers are interpreters of Slovene sign language. They teach us how to use signs and also to understand them. At the end of the course you can test yourself in communication with a deaf person, who will join our class. She will also tell us something about her life as a deaf person.
